PaperIQ launch Digital Pen for BlackBerry at 3GSM World Congress

February 13th, 2006

• Working in close partnership with Research in Motion and Groupe Hamelin, PaperIQ are delighted to announce the launch of Digital Pen for BlackBerry.

• Digital Pen for BlackBerry allows users to save meeting notes, contacts & tasks and send emails & faxes using simply their handwriting and their Bluetooth BlackBerry device.

• The Professional Edition boxed product will include a PaperIQ DP-201 digital pen, the Oxford Easybook® M3 digital stationery and a 12-month subscription to the PaperIQ handwriting recognition & fax service. A secure web-based archive of users’ notes is always available online, providing the ability to download notes as Microsoft® Word or Adobe PDF documents.

• The PaperIQ Digital Pen uses the highly secure BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Internet Service infrastructure, usage of which will be included in users’ current GPRS data allowance.

• An Enterprise Edition of the product is also available for organisations with BlackBerry Enterprise Server that wish to centralize their employees’ notes archives within the corporate firewall.

• Digital Pen for Blackberry will be available from March in the UK and other countries, including the US, later in 2006.

PaperIQ, a proven technical leader in Digital Pen & Paper solutions for BlackBerry, are proud to showcase this exciting new product with Research In Motion at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. The product integrates the simplicity of Digital Pen and Paper with the powerful security architecture and performance of the BlackBerry wireless solution. “Despite advances in hardware, few executives type up notes during meetings and prefer to use traditional pen and paper”, commented Robert Bakewell, Commercial Director at PaperIQ. “This additional time consuming task is often completed subsequent to the meeting when important details are easily forgotten. The powerful combination of PaperIQ’s Digital Pen for BlackBerry and a Bluetooth BlackBerry device affords the executive the ability to capture meeting notes in real-time on the Oxford Easybook M3 notepad with an automatic secure online archive as Microsoft Word or PDF documents. In addition, handwriting captured using the PaperIQ Digital Pen may be used to capture and send lengthy emails which, for many users, will be much quicker than typing an email using the BlackBerry’s built-in keyboard.”

“PaperIQ’s exclusive use of the Oxford Easybook M3 Smart Margin feature in conjunction with BlackBerry devices allows us to provide the BlackBerry user with some powerful productivity features”, commented James Shannon, Technical Director at PaperIQ. “A user may capture their handwritten meeting notes in the normal way and then subsequently annotate sections of their notes as tasks (with due dates), contacts or notes that should be created in their BlackBerry in addition to storage in the online notes archive. The inclusion of the innovative fax feature also enables highly mobile BlackBerry executives to easily send faxes when away from the office, with the choice of including either their original handwriting & drawings or the digitised text.”

The initial version of the product will be available in English and targeted at the UK and US, where market uptake of BlackBerry devices has been very high. PaperIQ is currently discussing distribution agreements with several network carriers in these and other markets.
