Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the amount charged to my credit card slightly higher than that advertised at purchase in the US store?
Due to recent changes in legislation, some US based credit cards - including Bank of America - have imposed a fee of up to 3% for purchases. We are currently working to resolve this and apologize that we cannot offer a list of companies that have imposed this fee.

Which BlackBerry smartphones does the application support?
The application currently supports the BlackBerry Curve 8350i/8520/8530, BlackBerry Curve 8900/9300, BlackBerry Bold 9000/9650/9700, BlackBerry Tour 9630, all BlackBerry Storm models and the BlackBerry Torch 9800.

Which wireless carriers will the application work with?
The application will work with any wireless carrier that allows internet access by 3rd party applications via BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Enterprise Server or directly over WiFi.

Can I use the built-in 1GB flash memory in the BlackBerry Bold 9000 to store and playback my local music?
No. In order to ensure that you can move your purchased music from your existing BlackBerry smartphone to any future or replacement device, 7digital for BlackBerry only supports the removable MicroSD Card for storage and playback of music.

Which 7digital stores are supported by the application?
The application currently supports 7digital stores in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, Spain, Netherlands and the Rest of Europe.

Which audio formats does the 7digital store/player support?
The 7digital application only downloads DRM-free MP3 music from the 7digital store. However, the My Music media player supports audio in the MP3, AAC or M4A (iTunes Plus) file formats.

Do I need to store my existing MP3, AAC or M4A files in a certain location on the MicroSD card in order to use the advanced media player (My Music)?
No, your MP3/AAC/M4A files may be stored at any location on your MicroSD Card. However M3U/RPS playlists must be located in one of the following directories: Media Card/, Media Card/BlackBerry, Media Card/BlackBerry/music or Media Card/BlackBerry/music/Media Sync.

How do I register for a 7digital account in order to purchase music?
You may either click the Register button in the Login dialog or register at http://7digital.com on your computer.

Why do I get this error when I login: "Your request could not be authorised with the 7digital store. (401)"?
The 7digital authentication server uses timestamped requests for additional security - please ensure your BlackBerry smartphone is set to the current date/time/timezone.

How do I pay for my purchases?
In order to purchase music through the application you must save a valid payment card in your 7digital account. You may either do this when you register for your account or will be prompted to add a saved payment card to your account when you make your first purchase. You may also use a 7digital.com account already setup on your computer to make a purchase and save a payment card.

How do I save a payment card at 7digital.com using my computer?
In order to save a payment card using you computer you need to complete a purchase at the 7digital.com store for your country. You may then make further purchases using the same 7digital login on your BlackBerry smartphone and your saved payment card will be used. Please note that only credit/debit cards are supported - if your 7digital.com account is configured for EasyPay or PayPal payment methods, you will not be able to make purchases using the BlackBerry application.

What happens if my purchase is interrupted - due to a phone call or wireless coverage interruption for instance?
All 7digital purchases are confirmed by email to your 7digital account email address. If any purchase on your BlackBerry smartphone is interrupted for any reason, you may either check your email for purchase confirmation, manually refresh your Locker in the BlackBerry application or login to your locker using your computer at 7digital.com.

What is My Locker?
The 7digital Locker is a secure area held on 7digital's servers linked to your 7digital account. All the music you purchase is recorded there and may be downloaded to your computer or your BlackBerry smartphone via the application.

What are the download options provided by the application and how do they vary?
There are up to 3 options that may be provided when downloading using the application - Download via WiFi, Download Now and Download Later. The Download Later option is only available during purchase and simply specifies that you will not download the purchase at this time - downloading it subequently via My Locker on your BlackBerry smartphone or at 7digital.com. Download via WiFi specifies that you wish to download the tracks via WiFi - either now (if available) or automatically when you return to WiFi coverage. The Download Now option will only be available on non-WiFi BlackBerry smartphones (and will download the high quality MP3 files over the carrier network) and on WiFi BlackBerry smartphones that are currently not in WiFi coverage (in which case a low quality version will be downloaded immediately and automatically replaced with the high quality version when you return to WiFi coverage).

How many times may I download a purchase from My Locker?
The number of times a purchase may be downloaded varies according to the licence for that track. If you exceed your maximum number of downloads you may purchase the track again to reset your download count.

What quality are the MP3 files downloaded from 7digital?
The bit rate of the MP3 files from 7digital varies, but the majority of tracks are encoded at 256 kbps or 320 kbps.

Are the music files I download protected by DRM copy protection?
All high quality MP3 files downloaded from 7digital, either via 7digital.com on your computer or via the 7digital for BlackBerry application are not subject to DRM. The only files that are protected are the low quality versions downloaded using the Download Now option on a WiFi BlackBerry smartphone that's on the carrier network - however these are automatically replaced with the high quality, DRM-free MP3 files when you return to WiFi coverage.

Is there any difference between the version on BlackBerry App World and the version at http://7digital.com/bb?
The only difference between these two versions is the way in which you are notified about available upgrades. The App World version will notify you of upgrades via the App World application and its associated indicators/alerts, whereas the 7digital.net version will notify you in the application (controlled by the Upgrade Alerts setting under Options).

Can I upgrade from the 7digital.net version to the App World version and vice versa?
This is not recommended. If you wish to change from one distribution model to the other, please uninstall the previous version before instaling the new version. Providing you use the same 7digital.com login in the new version, your locker, playlists and music will be preserved.
